How loud is it,
actually?
A sound level meter, an eight-band FFT spectrum analyser and a NIOSH noise dosimeter — all computed on your phone. Then a report you can send to a landlord, a council or a safety officer.
Three instruments
Sound level meter
Live dB with minimum, maximum, average (Leq) and peak, an analogue needle and a rolling chart. Calibrate against a reference meter, ±10 dB, and the offset is remembered.
Spectrum radar
A real FFT, not an amplitude animation: eight octave bands from 63 Hz to 8 kHz, with the dominant frequency tracked in hertz. A low hum through a wall and a high whine are different problems, and this is what tells them apart.
Noise dosimeter
Cumulative exposure against the NIOSH 8-hour limit of 85 dB, with the safe time remaining counting down. The figure that matters if you are asking whether a workplace is doing damage.
A report you can send
Average, peak, duration, dose and the level band — dated, with the device named and any calibration offset stated. Share it as text to anyone. It never leaves the phone by itself.
The microphone, exactly
The app listens. It does not record. Audio arrives as a stream of frames, each one becomes a level and a spectrum, and the frame is discarded — the next one overwrites it. No audio file is created at any point, not even a temporary one, and no audio leaves the device.
The microphone runs only while the meter does. Pause it and the stream stops. The full detail.
Three decisions worth explaining
It will not invent a reading
If the microphone permission is refused or the audio stream fails, the meter stops and clears rather than showing something plausible. A measuring instrument that displays a number it did not measure is worse than one that admits it cannot.
No ad while the meter is running
The free app is ad-funded, and a full-screen ad is refused outright while measuring. A dosimeter integrates exposure over time, so an advert is time the microphone was not listening — which would leave a safety figure plausible and quietly wrong.
It is not a Type 1 meter
A phone microphone has no calibrated free-field response, and above roughly 95 dB most handsets clip or apply gain control you cannot see. Readings are indicative. Every report says so, in the report.
What it does with what it hears
Nothing leaves the phone
Levels, spectra, dose, your settings — all computed on the device and gone when you close the app. No account, no server of ours, no analytics.
Ads, honestly
They are the only reason the app requests an internet permission, and they are given no audio and no measurement. What ads receive.
Six languages
English, العربية, Español, Deutsch, Français and 日本語 — with full right-to-left layout for Arabic, not just translated strings.
Fonts bundled, not fetched
The typeface ships inside the app, so the first frame looks right with or without a connection.

A reading that disagrees with a real meter is the most common one, and it usually has a good explanation: the support page covers it, or write to support@decibelmeterapp.com.

ديسيبل حيّ مع الأدنى والأعلى والمتوسط (Leq) والذروة، وإبرة تناظرية ورسم متدحرج. عايِره مقابل مقياس مرجعي بمدى ±١٠ ديسيبل، ويُحفظ المعامل.
رادار الطيف
تحويل فورييه حقيقي، لا حركة سعة: ثمانية نطاقات أوكتاف من ٦٣ هرتز إلى ٨ كيلوهرتز، مع تتبّع التردد المهيمن. فالطنين المنخفض عبر جدار والصفير العالي مشكلتان مختلفتان، وهذا ما يميّز بينهما.
مقياس الجرعة
التعرّض التراكمي مقابل حدّ NIOSH لثماني ساعات عند ٨٥ ديسيبل، مع تنازل الوقت الآمن المتبقي. وهو الرقم المهم إن كنت تسأل عمّا إذا كان مكان عملك يضرّ بسمعك.
تقرير ترسله
المتوسط والذروة والمدة والجرعة ونطاق المستوى — مؤرّخًا، مع ذكر الجهاز وأي معامل معايرة. شاركه نصًّا مع أي أحد. ولا يغادر الهاتف من تلقاء نفسه.
الميكروفون، بالضبط
التطبيق يسمع. ولا يسجّل. يصل الصوت كتدفّق من الإطارات، ويصير كل إطار مستوًى وطيفًا، ثم يُطرح الإطار — والتالي يكتب فوقه. ولا يُنشأ ملف صوتي في أي لحظة، ولا حتى مؤقت، ولا يغادر أي صوت الجهاز.
والميكروفون يعمل فقط ما دام المقياس يعمل. أوقفه يتوقف التدفّق. التفاصيل كاملة.
ثلاثة قرارات تستحق الشرح
لن يختلق قراءة
إن رُفضت صلاحية الميكروفون أو فشل تدفّق الصوت، يتوقف المقياس ويمسح بدل عرض شيء معقول. فجهاز قياس يعرض رقمًا لم يقِسه أسوأ من جهاز يعترف أنه لا يستطيع.
لا إعلان والمقياس يعمل
التطبيق المجاني تموّله الإعلانات، ويُرفض الإعلان الكامل رفضًا قاطعًا أثناء القياس. فمقياس الجرعة يكامل التعرّض عبر الزمن، والإعلان وقت لم يكن الميكروفون يسمع فيه — فيبقى رقم السلامة معقولًا وخاطئًا بصمت.
ليس مقياسًا من الفئة الأولى
ميكروفون الهاتف بلا استجابة مجال حرّ معايَرة، وفوق ٩٥ ديسيبل تقريبًا تقصّ معظم الأجهزة الإشارة أو تطبّق تحكّمًا في الكسب لا تراه. والقراءات استرشادية. وكل تقرير يقول ذلك، داخل التقرير.
ماذا يفعل بما يسمعه
لا شيء يغادر الهاتف
المستويات والأطياف والجرعة وإعداداتك — كلها تُحسب على الجهاز وتزول عند إغلاق التطبيق. لا حساب، ولا خادم لنا، ولا تحليلات.
الإعلانات، بصراحة
هي السبب الوحيد لطلب التطبيق صلاحية إنترنت، ولا تُعطى صوتًا ولا قياسًا. ما تستقبله الإعلانات.
